well friends, we did talk about the poverty in tribes, but whenever the question of poverty comes in front, may be, the most frequent question comes in mind is of suicides of farmers in Maharashtra.
However, I really wonder whether the question is same, as it is been put forward?
i mean, when we say that "loans by pawn-brokers, dearness of basic needs of life are responsible for suicides of farmers", is it all or it is just half-truth.
May be yes, may it not the whole fact.
Friends, don’t we see lot of bankrupts on ‘dalal street’, in share market? Do they all go and suicide?
I think, it is not just about loans and its rates. I consider, it is more concerned with the ‘hope’ of life. Our farmers loose the hope life, hope that things may turn out good, hope of seeing their children happy, hope of poor but happy life, and yes!, loans and money-lenders are just not responsible for this lack.

Yes you are right.
And if you observe these suicides happen only in a particular region of vidarbh.
When anybody dies; irrespective of any reason (accident, long term illness, or suiside because of family matters), it is declared as the suicide death due to bad debt.
Farmers are poor in all the regions in India. Poor from bihar, UP being not able to sustain in their villages, come to maharashtra, work very hard and send some money home every month.
People doing suicide are not willing to struggle and take the easy path of ending their lives.
Nobody but the people doing suicides themselves are to blame.
Hi Harshada,
I follow up your writing on “poverty” which give some fresh view on this issue. I hope to hear more!
